Beer Pong Table Design - How It Folds

I did a rendering of how the beer pong table is going to look folded up:

For more information about the table check out my design study: http://bestbeerpongtable1.blogspot.com/2012/01/beer-pong-table-design.html

PS: I'm still looking for a good digital printing solution for this table, if you know of a business that can help me out (or if you run one yourself) please contact me privately.

Beer Pong Table Design Concept - A Few Renderings

At long last - I've got a few renderings ready for you.  Let me know what you guys think and if there is anything that you think should be changed to make this beer pong table the worlds best beer pong table.  For the full beer pong table design study check out this post.

Here is the general design. The cups are sitting on plastic triangles. Under those triangles are "trays" for ice to help keep the beer cold.

Here are the cups sitting on ice tray lid. The lid has holes in it to help drain more water and keep the cups dry. Anyone who has ever played Beer Pong knows that the cups like to "travel" when the table is wet.

Here is a close look at the ice tray with the plastic lid removed. You can also see the fluid-management system running along the edge of the table.

Beer Pong Table Design - Size, Bounce, and Print

So, About The Size...
As I work on this Beer Pong Table Design, I'm considering the size of the table.  The standard playable area of a beer pong table is 8 feet in length, 2 feet in width and 27.5 inches in height, but I think that the table would be better if it were a little wider to offer a bit of space for cups, beer cans, and other things like that.

Getting the Right Beer Pong Bounce
Another important concern of mine is how live the bounce needs to be on the table.  With my unique beer pong table design, I can easily control this by adjusting a dimension.  I'm planning on sending a video of the pong ball bouncing under different circumstances, and I would love to get some feedback from you on what the "perfect bounce" on a beer pong table is.

Custom Beer Pong Tables
Last, but most certainly not least, it's really starting to look like we're going to be able to allow everyone to choose whatever image they want to put on thier beer pong table, although for now the table will only come in one color - White.  I think the customized logo will be really great for fraternities and bars, giving them the chance to make the table "theirs."  I'll most likely create a few "stock" designs to choose from as well.  What kind of designs would you guys like to have?  Are there any graphic designers out there that think they may be up for the task of making a few

Final Thoughts
The beer pong table design is coming along very well, and I'm making connections with various fabricators to build a prototype to see how well it works.  I can't wait to see how well this design works, and I really think my beer pong-loving friends appreciate the careful design I have put into this table.  If you know of any metal, plastic, or wood, manufacturers don't hesitate to connect me with them on LinkedIn.  I'd love to discuss the design in a bit more detail, and talk about the opportunities I've got in mind for this.  I am also still looking for a digital printer for the table.

Beer Pong Table Graphics - Looking for a Digital Printer

As I work on this beer pong table design, it has come to my attention that a lot of people are very interested in custom-made graphics for their tabletops.  I believe this could be done with the right digital printer at the end of the process, as well as a website that allows everyone to upload their own image to print on the table.  I know how to design the website to make this happen, but I do need find the right printer company.

For more information about this beer pong table design, check out my beer pong table design notes.

On another note, what do you think?  Do you think having a custom-graphic is an important asset to the worlds best beer pong table?  If so, what other customizations do you think the table should have?  Don't hold back.

Beer Pong Table Design

Ok - here's the deal, I enjoy the game of beer pong. I've seen this game played on top of picnic tables, counter tops, home-made table-like contraptions, even doors. People will do just about anything to find a large-flat surface to set cups and throw ping-pong balls on. As time went on, we eventually "upgraded," and dropped 120 bucks for a specially made beer pong table. The table was simple - a regulation-sized portable beer pong table, but the table's simple design gave it some pretty big design flaws. Beer pong is a wet game, full of spilled alcohol, spilled water, and wet ping pong balls bouncing on the table and the design of the table was hardly waterproof, and the table quickly warped (which threw the ping pong ball bounce off, which is a big deal if you are into bouncing the ball like I am.). The beer got warm sitting on the table, and worst of all when there was a spill the water, beer, and everything else flew off of the table all over the floor.

I am an Industrial Engineer for a POP display company. We work with a lot of the same materials that my beer pong table was made out of. I have a lot of knowledge on making products efficiency, and I have come connections in the manufacturing side of things.

Over the past few weeks, I have been designing the "ultimate beer pong table" and the goal is to offer it at an affordable price.

Here is a look at my current design intent:

1.) Portable.
I think the table should be able to be easily taken from one party to the next. Most tables fold up, but who says tables have to fold?

2.) Affordable
My goal is to try to sell this table for 150 dollars or less.

3.) Water-ready
This table HAS to be better than waterproof. This table has to be water-ready. There should be liquid management trays that flow the spilled contents into a drain, the top HAS to be waterproof, and for the love of god we have to do something to better-keep the bottom of the cups dry so they will stop sliding all over the place without compromising the freedom of the re-rack.

4.) Keep the Beer Cold
I think there should be some way to effectively keep the beer cold during the longer games played later in the night. Nothing is worse than drinking the last warm cup on the table after 1 hour of play against the idiot who has been texting all night instead of focusing on the game.

I've got a lot of it laid out, and believe it or not I currently have ALL of those design intents covered (I think, I still have to get some quotes on the cost, but I've got a good feeling so far.) I would love to start sharing some of this stuff with you guys. I assume if you've read this much you probably like the game enough to to be interested, and I'm confident that you would love to contribute by giving me some feedback on the designs and ideas that I talk about in this blog.

I started this blog to:

1.)Raise awareness about this idea, and get some feedback
2.)Connect with more manufacturers to work on better prices
3.)Gain support to get the manufacturing costs kickstarted
4.)Connect with bars, and other businesses to gain support (perhaps even sponsorship) for the tables

I'm not just making this table for me, I'm making it for everyone else too. I want your advice, your ideas, and your thoughts on everything I've written so far. Ultimately, we're here to make the best beer pong table this world has ever seen.

Here is a look at the current design:

Here's a few questions I have for the community.

How "active" do you prefer a bounce? Do you prefer a more "dead bounce" or a very "live bounce?"

Do you think cup holders are important in the table? What about a spare ping pong ball holder?

Do you think 150$ is a reasonable price?

What do you guys think of the design intent? What else would your "ultimate beer pong table" have?
